The First Amendment is the beginning of our individual Bill of Rights. But, there is one right listed there that some would perhaps believe has nothing to do with individual rights: the freedom of the press. However, when you ponder upon the words, “or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition their government for redress of grievance,” one can surmise why the freedom of the press is vital to our individual rights. A free press is one that objectively keeps the people informed, educated, and able to discern infringement upon their constitutional rights. A free press sets the conditions for us to be citizens in a Constitutional Republic, not subjects in a tyrannical monarchy or system of rule. If we lose that objective press, one that is no longer free to speak to the truth, then We the People can be driven like mindless lemmings.
The Robert B. Carleson Freedom Scholarship
The American Constitutional Rights Union is proud to announce the creation of The Robert B. Carleson Freedom Scholarship, honoring our founder’s lifelong dedication to liberty, limited government, and the principles of the U.S. Constitution.
Beginning in January 2026, this scholarship will be awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate a strong commitment to constitutional values and civic responsibility.
Named for Robert B. Carleson, a visionary public servant who championed individual freedom and self-reliance, the scholarship will help deserving students pursue higher education while carrying forward his enduring legacy. Learn more about Robert Carleson’s impact here.
The Defenders Initiative recognizes law enforcement agencies honoring their constitutional oath to protect and to serve by working cooperatively with ICE to identify, process, and detain dangerous immigration offenders per Section 287(g).

As the Left shamelessly schemes to prevent election integrity measures in state legislatures and abolish them with a federal power grab (H.R. 1/S. 1), their propaganda includes references to Jim Crow laws of the past. ACRU educated the public on this issue some years ago in our publication “The Truth About Jim Crow.”
