American Dream or Socialist Nightmare

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published February 24, 2011 on The Washington Times website.

There are few things more galling than communists lecturing Americans on how we can live up to our “values.” A case in point is former Obama administration “green jobs czar” Van Jones rhapsodizing about the union rent-a-mobs in Madison, Wis., Indiana and coming to a city near you.

In his article “Introducing the ‘American Dream’ ” at the Huffington Post, Mr. Jones, who lost his White House job when his communist affiliations surfaced, says these “heroes and heroines” in the mobs will […]

Democracy Versus Liberty

By |2020-04-23T21:56:54-04:00February 24th, 2011|

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published February 23, 2011 on Townhall.com.

It is truly disgusting for me to hear politicians, national and international talking heads and pseudo-academics praising the Middle East stirrings as democracy movements. We also hear democracy as the description of our own political system. Like the founders of our nation, I find democracy and majority rule a contemptible form of government.

You say, “Whoa, Williams, you really have to explain yourself this time!”

I’ll begin by quoting our founders on democracy. James Madison, in Federalist Paper […]

Wisconsin Showdown

By |2011-02-23T09:45:51-05:00February 23rd, 2011|

This column by ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara was published February 23, 2011 on The American Spectator website .

Nationwide, state and local government workers are paid on average 45% more than private sector workers, with an average hourly wage of $26.25, and $13.56 in hourly costs for benefits, for total hourly costs of $39.81, or $80,000 per year on average. This is true in Wisconsin as well. Indeed, the Manhattan Institute’s E.J. McMahon reports that for public school teachers in Milwaukee, the annual cost of family health coverage is $26,844, for which the teachers currently pay nothing.

Yet, state and local government workers are […]

Time to Recall AWOL Lawmakers

By |2011-02-22T16:41:05-05:00February 22nd, 2011|

This column by ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara was published February 22, 2011 on FoxNews.com.

Newly elected Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has moved expeditiously to propose legislation to close the state’s $3.6 billion budget deficit. But that legislation languishes in the state legislature because the Democrat minority in the state Senate has fled Wisconsin, depriving the Senate of a quorum to conduct business.

Wisconsin held an election in November, and the voters granted the Republicans a 19-14 Senate majority. But under the state Senate rules, a quorum of 20 is needed to conduct business. By refusing to even participate in Senate […]

In Case of Emergency, Break the Constitution

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published February 11, 2011 on The Washington Times website.

Did you know that the nation soon will undergo a test that will determine how effectively the president of the United States can seize control of the media in the event of an “emergency”? Well, that’s not the way the administration is putting it.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a press release on Feb. 3 outlining the plan for the “first-ever presidential alert.” On a date yet to be set, the presidential alert will go “to television and radio broadcasters, cable […]

Good Morning, Suckers

By |2011-02-16T09:34:51-05:00February 16th, 2011|

This column by ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara was published February 16, 2011 on The American Spectator website.

President Obama’s budget released on Monday proposes to spend $3.73 trillion for 2012. He can’t say Bush made him do that. That proposed spending is an undeniable fact that reveals who he is, which he successfully hid from 53% of voters in 2008.

Campaigning in 2008 he promised voters that his plan involved a “net spending cut.” That net spending cut translated into $836 billion in increased spending this year from 2008, according to President Obama’s own budget documents. That is a federal spending increase of nearly […]

Roadmap for Repealing Obamacare

By |2020-04-23T21:57:13-04:00February 13th, 2011|

As a member of the Conservative Action Project, ACRU CEO Susan Carleson and leaders of 32 other organizations representing a broad cross section of the conservative movement are united on repealing Obamacare and make the following recommendations:

REPEALING OBAMACARE & PROTECTING COURT VICTORIES

RE: House and Senate Leaders should seize the momentum from the Florida decision declaring Obamacare unconstitutional and retool their strategy. Push hard for total repeal; defund its implementation, but DO NOT try partial repeal. Conservatives have lots of good ideas that can be advanced on their own, rather than attempting to make modifications to Obamacare.

Don't Sweeten the Hemlock

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell and Family Research Council Senior Fellow for Policy Studies Bob Morrison was published February 9, 2011 on The Daily Caller website.

Bill Bennett engaged in a fine discussion of strategy on his radio talk show recently. Marc Thiessen, a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, came on Bill’s Morning in America show to directly contradict the host.

Well, this is interesting. Bennett understandably made the point that the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives needed to show that ballots do make a difference. Elections have consequences — and are […]

The Opposite of Ronald Reagan

By |2011-02-09T10:03:17-05:00February 9th, 2011|

This column by ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara was published February 9, 2011 on The American Spectator website.

While Americans across the country are holding celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Reagan, President Obama and his media allies are peddling the line that he is just like Reagan. So let’s try this thought experiment. Suppose Obama did follow in the tradition of Reagan, Thatcher, and what could have been his ideal mentor, Jack Kemp.

Suppose as a result that President Obama embraced reducing tax rates, cutting spending, slashing unnecessary regulatory burdens and restrictions, and maintaining a strong dollar, anti-inflation monetary […]

Obama's Foxy Evasions

By |2011-02-09T09:52:15-05:00February 9th, 2011|

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Jan LaRue appeared February 9, 2011 on the American Thinker website.

Bill O’Reilly’s interview of President Obama on Fox News just prior to the Super Bowl confirmed that he remains a self-absorbed leftist.

Now that he’s ardently denied moving to the political center, maybe pundits and Republicans like Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will finally get it, unless they naively believe he’s been there all along.

Obama’s responses qualified for more penalty flags than were thrown during the game. His reaction to the crisis in Egypt is similar to his comment about the […]
