Back when we were little kids, before the dawn of all these video games, kids had imaginations and would make up games to indulge themselves. Compared to some kids today, we were in better shape physically and mentally. One of the games we would play was the “What If Game.” Normally, it was about cracking on each other’s relatives or families, but of course, today that would end up badly. I guess we also had a better sense of humor.
So, for this week’s missive, let’s play an adult version of the “What If” game with history. Now, there will be some who will go abjectly apoplectic about this walk down memory lane, but it is something we should all ponder. As George Santayana is attributed with saying, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I would also add that those who don’t want to recall the past have something to hide.
So, here we go…
What if in 622AD, when some folks in Mecca had not decided to mock Mohammed about his vision of going to Jerusalem on the back of a white donkey with a man’s face? What if Mohammed had a little better sense of humor, laughed it off, and not run off to Medina and taken up the sword? As a matter of fact, his sword is represented on the flag of Saudi Arabia, beneath a Quranic verse. It is easy to study the Quran and see the transformation of the early peaceful “coexistence” verses to the Medina and post Medina to Mecca phase when Mohammed decided to lead armed conquests and combat actions to further his ideology, which ended with his return back to Mecca and his ensuing letter to the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius to convert, subjugate, and face death.
There would be another fella from Saudi Arabia named Osama Bin Laden who would pen an identical letter to then U.S. President George W. Bush…following the traditions of Mohammed.
What if the subsequent Islamic leaders of the Umayyad and Abbasid caliphates had not set their sights on conquest and domination, spreading out from the Arabian peninsula east and west? What if they had not brought the sword in designs of conquering but sought to peacefully proselytize their ideology? What if that same Umayyad caliphate and its muslim army had not decided to cross the Mediterranean and invade Europe, first overrunning what we know as the Iberian peninsula, Spain, and then turning their sights westward? What if Charles “The Hammer” Martel had not defeated the invading Muslim army at the Battle of Tours in 732AD? Then again, glance at Europe today. It has been overrun by Islamic jihadists by way of mass immigration and a firm desire to establish Sharia rule and non-assimilation.
Even with the turning back of the Muslim armies at the Battle of Tours, and later the victory of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella over the Moors, restoring Spanish rule, what if Constantinople had not fallen in 1453 to the invading muslim armies of the Ottomans? It is interesting to note that the loss of Constantinople, basically bringing to fruition the letter sent to Heraclius circa 628AD by Mohammed, had a major economic impact. It severed Europe’s trade route to the west. It would be in 1492 that a young man named Christopher Columbus of Genoa would petition Ferdinand and Isabella to sponsor his endeavor to find a means to establish a trade route going east, over the seas.
However, the Muslim armies were not satisfied with the conquest of Constantinople. What if the Hungarian army had defeated the Ottomans at the Battle of Kosovo in 1448 as the Ottomans expanded their empire into the Balkans? Remember, Adolf Hitler would later, during World War II, have a Muslim Waffen SS unit in the Balkans, hence why we still have enmity between Serbians and Muslims in the region. What if the Holy League had lost the naval Battle of Lepanto in 1571 against the Ottomans? What if the Polish knights and others had not won a pivotal Battle at Vienna in 1683, ending the Ottoman invasion? Then again, look at Western Europe now. Eastern Europeans have not forgotten the brutality of the Muslim conquest by the Ottomans, hence why they rejected the forced immigration, to the detriment of those who did not.
What if in 1928 a fella named Sayid Qutb had not founded an organization called the Muslim Brotherhood? Well, first of all, maybe Egyptian President Anwar Sadat would not have been assassinated. The world definitely would not have to contend with the modern-day Islamic jihadist movement, which has brought just as much death and destruction as earlier designs for conquest. Perhaps there would have never been a man named Mohammed Akhram who, in 1991, would write the Muslim Brotherhood’s Strategic Memorandum for conducting a “civilization jihad” against the United States of America. A document that is now open-sourced, discovered during an FBI raid of an Islamic center in Northern Virginia and introduced in the largest ever Islamic terrorist funding trial, the Holy Land Foundation case, in 2008. Still today, the United States has not declared the Muslim Brotherhood, and its affiliate organizations, such as the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), as an Islamic terrorist group; others have.
What if Democrat presidents such as Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton had not been so cozy with Yasser Arafat, founder of an Islamic terrorist organization known as the Palestinian Liberation Organization, who, around 1967, cleverly associated a region with a people in order to advance the goal of the eradication and elimination of the modern-day State of Israel? Perhaps we would not have had the Munich Olympics Islamic terrorist attack? And maybe, Leon Klinghoffer would have gone on to enjoy a nice Mediterranean Sea cruise on the ship Achille Lauro, and not be shot and tossed into the sea, while in his wheelchair, by PLO terrorists.
What if Carter had decided to support the Shah of Iran and not enable the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran led by the maniacal Ayatollah Khomeini? Perhaps there would not have been 234 Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers killed on October 23, 1983, by Hezbollah terrorists, supported by Iran.
What if we recognized the history of Islamic totalitarianism? What if we stood strong against a theocratic-political ideology that has brought the sword and still today is evidencing its intolerance by slaughtering Christians throughout the Middle East, chasing Coptics, Assyrians, and Chaldeans away from their ancestral lands? They existed long before Mohammed. Maybe if we had taken a stronger stance, 9-11 would not have happened; after all, there was a previous attempt to bring down the World Trade Towers. Now, that same city is on the verge of electing a slick-talking, suit-wearing Islamic jihadist who proudly boasted about “globalizing the intifada,” a call to violence.
Here is a list of Islamic terrorist organizations. This does not include those listed in the Muslim Brotherhood’s Strategic Memorandum:
Islamic Jihad, Taliban (various subsets), Al Qaeda (to include in the Arabian Peninsula and the Maghreb), Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS/ISIL, Abu Sayyaf, Boko Haram, Al Shabaab, Haqqani Network, Al Nusrah Front, Ansar al-Sharia, Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Jemaah Islamiyah, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba
This has been going on since 622AD. Who would have ever thought that our American flag would be ripped down just blocks from our Capitol, and replaced by the flag of a terrorist group, Hamas? What if there were no Hamas? Then perhaps, there would be Jews and Arabs still alive. Let’s stop being used as useful idiots and afraid to tell someone like Mahmoud Khalil to get the hell out of our Country.
And if this missive upsets you, remember, the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation wants to institute an international law penalizing anyone for speaking the truth about Islam. My response is in southern lexicon, “That dawg don’t hunt.”
Steadfast and Loyal.
What If?
