Now apply that concept to your not-very-trustworthy government and think about how the passport can be used to collect all manner of information about your beliefs, actions, purchases and who knows what else. By almost any measure, the first three months of 2021 were the worst ever for online freedom. Amazon, Twitter, Apple, Google, Facebook, YouTube and others proved to the world that the Big Tech censorship of conservatives is a reality. And they did so in disturbing, authoritarian ways that highlight their unchecked power over information and our political process.
Free speech is not just a Constitutional protection that protects us from government tyranny, but it is a guiding principle of our society and a cornerstone of our liberty. One group of Americans with one ideological belief system should not use their power to suppress the speech of others. A number of conservative constitutionalists have come together to hold US corporations accountable when they become weaponized corporate tools of the left.
Kudos to North Dakota legislators for pushing a bill that that will restrict state bureaucrats from blocking worship and religious practices during a state of emergency while ensuring that participation in faith activities is not treated with punitive bias. In theory, Constitutional rights should not need “extra” state protections, but we have learned that they do. Other states should follow suit.
