Freedom of Education: The Civil Rights Issue of Our Time

Naples, FL — In a new OPED for American Constitutional Rights Union, Executive Director Lt. Col. Allen West writes, “The time is upon us to take back control of education in America; it is not the realm of the State. It does not exist for the control of the progressive socialists and Marxists. Education exists to unleash our freedom of conscience and enable us to be critical thinkers and productive members of the American society…not mindless lemmings.”

Instead of parents being the sole authority with ultimate responsibility for their children’s upbringing, today’s educational system has labeled them “domestic terrorists” and worse. In a strategy straight from Karl Marx’s playbook, the education system intends to indoctrinate our children in cultural Marxism.

West continues, “We must reassert educational freedom and parental choice in America; this is the new civil rights battlefield. My very own parents made the decision about my early education, realizing that a good quality education unlocks the doors to equality of opportunity. If we continue down this current path, we lessen the opportunities for our children, but we increase the ability of others to determine their outcomes. If taxpayers, parents, are the ones funding public education, then they are the investors and have a definitive interest in their return on investment.”

We must take back control of education in America; it is not the realm of the state. Because, in the words of Ronald Reagan, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
