ICE Buffalo arrests Mexican criminal aliens with felony convictions

On July 7, 2025, ICE Buffalo officers arrested two Mexican nationals with serious felony conviction histories. The first, a 44-year-old, was convicted of sexual conduct against a child, and the second, a 49-year-old, was convicted of manslaughter and had been previously removed from the United States three times. Both individuals had entered the country without inspection by immigration officials and are detained pending removal proceedings.

Joel Antonio Alonzo, a 19-year-old Honduran national, was charged with assaulting a federal protective security officer and attempting to seize the officer's loaded service firearm at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City, where Immigration Court proceedings are conducted. According to the allegations, Alonzo exhibited disruptive behavior before lunging at an officer and grabbing his firearm with significant force in an attempt to pull it from its holster. The case was announced by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton and DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

ICE Buffalo removes illegal alien, child sex predator to Guatemala

On June 28, 2025, ICE Buffalo removed Alvaro De Jesus Martinez-Juarez, a 55-year-old Guatemalan national, following his conviction for sexual abuse of a child. Martinez-Juarez had illegally entered the United States in 1990 and was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted by Nassau County Court in 2017. He was deported to Guatemala following the completion of his sentence and immigration proceedings.

On June 4, 2025, ICE Homeland Security Investigations arrested Ho Kai Tam, a 42-year-old Hong Kong citizen, in Williamsville, New York. Tam had prior convictions for mail fraud in 2003 and sexual misconduct in 2010, and had been subject to a removal order issued in 2005. He was transported to the Batavia Federal Detention Facility following his arrest.

Saul Morales-Garcia, a 40-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador, allegedly confronted U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III outside a hotel in Albany, New York, yelling and pulling a knife. Morales-Garcia was charged with attempted second-degree murder and was also found to have an active arrest warrant outstanding in Georgia. The incident occurred in June 2025.

U.S. Marshals Arrest Dominican Man Wanted in NY for Quadruple Murder

The U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Luis Francisco Soriano, 31, a Dominican national wanted by the Irondequoit, New York Police Department on four charges of second-degree murder in connection with a quadruple homicide that occurred August 31, 2024, two of whose victims were children aged 2 and 4. Soriano had fled to the Dominican Republic after becoming aware of the presence of federal marshals, and was located working at a hotel in Punta Cana. He was successfully extradited on July 26, 2025, with U.S. Marshals facilitating his transfer to Monroe County authorities.

On May 15, 2025, ICE Buffalo removed Juan Velasquez, a 45-year-old Salvadoran national, to El Salvador after he was found to have multiple felony convictions in New York including rape and sexual abuse of a minor. Velasquez had previously been deported in 2004 but illegally reentered the United States. His removal followed the completion of his sentence and immigration proceedings.
