Ezequiel Brito, 40, a Dominican national also known as "Jose Luis Portorreal Cruz," was extradited to the United States after absconding from pretrial supervision and fleeing to the Dominican Republic following his 2021 arrest on drug charges. Brito faces one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl and one count of possession with intent to distribute, each carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison and a mandatory minimum of 10 years. He made his initial appearance on July 2, 2025, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court and was detained.

El Salvador National Charged with Illegal Possession of Firearms

Jose Manuel Menjivar Viera, 35, a citizen of El Salvador residing in Long Branch, New Jersey, was charged with one count of being an illegal alien in possession of firearms after officers responding to reports of gunshots in a residential neighborhood observed him carrying a large black bag containing a semiautomatic rifle, a loaded handgun, firearm magazines, ammunition, and a machete. DHS/ICE agents confirmed Viera had no legal status to remain in the United States. The charge carries a maximum potential penalty of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

El Salvador National Previously Convicted of Double Homicide Charged with Illegally Reentering the United States

Cesar Eliseo Sorto-Amaya, 28, a citizen of El Salvador convicted in absentia in April 2024 of double aggravated homicide and sentenced to 50 years in prison in El Salvador, was charged with illegally reentering the United States and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jose R. Almonte in Newark federal court. Since 2015, Sorto-Amaya had been deported from and illegally returned to the United States three separate times, including once after a weapons possession conviction in Elizabeth, New Jersey. El Salvadoran authorities alerted ICE to his likely whereabouts, and agents located him on the front porch of a home at an address provided by Salvadoran law enforcement.

Among those extradited was Moises Humberto Rivera Luna, an alleged international leader of MS-13, and Rostislav Panev, a dual Russian-Israeli national charged as a developer for the LockBit ransomware group responsible for attacks on more than 2,500 victims across 120 countries. The DOJ's Office of International Affairs coordinated the extraditions with international law enforcement partners.

Lewistone Baez Miranda, 50, of Puerto Rico, was sentenced to 78 months (more than 6 years) in federal prison for leading a drug trafficking organization that shipped cocaine from Puerto Rico to Manchester, New Hampshire via the U.S. Postal Service. His son used fictitious information to mail packages containing cocaine — often hidden inside children's games in 500-gram or 1,000-gram bundles — to Manchester for redistribution. Between September 2020 and December 2021, the organization shipped over 5.6 kilograms of cocaine, and Baez Miranda also sent drug proceeds back to Puerto Rico, including a parcel containing $11,000.

Robely Eladio De Jesus Guerrero, 37, a citizen of the Dominican Republic unlawfully residing in Massachusetts, was arrested and charged with unlawful reentry of a deported alien and distribution of controlled substances, including fentanyl and one pound of methamphetamine, in the New Hampshire Seacoast area. He subsequently pleaded guilty in federal court in Concord to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien and one count of distribution of a controlled substance. The case was investigated jointly by federal and local law enforcement, including the DEA.
