COMMENTARY AND OP-EDS
Everyone Can Agree on the Risks of COVID Passports
Sometimes proposed policies are so onerous to the principles of personal liberty, freedom, and privacy that right and left can agree. When liberals and conservatives unite to fight against a common cause, we ought to take note. Author and activist Dr. Naomi Wolf and ACRU President Lori Roman have joined forces to speak out against proposed COVID Passport policies. Listen here.
Media Availability: Disarming Americans is the Best Way to Enslave Them
Naples, FL — In a recent editorial, American Constitutional Rights Union (ACRU) Policy Board member Ken Blackwell and ACRU President Lori Roman, note gun rights are the lynchpin of all rights and an essential underpinning of true freedom. Throughout modern history, dangerous authoritarians are the ones who prioritize gun confiscation from law-abiding citizens.
Hans von Spakovsky: Texas Democrats’ outrageous claims about election reforms have no connection to reality
Texas Democrats held a press conference on Friday in Alexandria, Va., across the Potomac River from the nation’s capital, to continue their lies about the election reforms being proposed in the special session of the Texas legislature called by Gov. Greg Abbott. The session has been unable to start because they fled the state, denying a quorum in the legislature. As I have already explained in a previous op-ed for Fox News, the misleading and outrageous claims they have made and that they repeated at the press conference about the reforms have no connection whatsoever to reality.
Blackwell and Roman: Disarming Americans is the Best Way to Enslave Them
Modern history provides troubling proof that loss of liberty is preceded by disarmament of citizens. This week, the most obvious example is right before our eyes as we watch the Cuban people pleading for freedom. Fidel Castro took control of Cuba in 1959 and immediately called for removing all guns from citizens. His new communist regime sent agents door to door to coerce citizens into turning over their firearms. If you think it could not happen here, recall the confiscation of thousands of home-defense firearms during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Media Availability: Supreme Court Turned the Tide in Election Integrity War
American Constitutional Rights Union (ACRU) Policy Board member, Ken Blackwell has written an op ed which explains how the DNC failed to hijack the Voting Rights Act of 1965 when the Supreme Court in Brnovich v. DNC laid a foundation to restore Americans’ confidence in their elections so that everywhere in this nation it can be easy to vote, but hard to cheat.
Blackwell: Supreme Court Turned the Tide in Election Integrity War
Election integrity recently won a pivotal battle against an attempt by Democrats to hijack the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) for partisan reasons. They failed when the Supreme Court in Brnovich v. DNC laid a foundation to restore Americans’ confidence in their elections so that everywhere in this nation it can be easy to vote, but hard to cheat.

ACRU Amicus Brief Supports Supreme Court Arizona Voting Integrity Policy Win
With the recent successful filibuster blocking Senate consideration of the so-called “For the People Act,” the Supreme Court’s decision in Brnovich takes on added importance. By reversing the Ninth Circuit’s decision, as The ACRU argued it should, Arizona’s race-neutral, generally applicable election rules limiting out-of-precinct voting and ballot harvesting will stand without any danger of preemption by federal statute.
Hans von Spakovsky: Merrick Garland’s misleading voting claims – what AG gets wrong about US elections | Fox News
Partisan, political, designed to inflame. That’s what Merrick Garland’s recent speech on voting rights was. It certainly was not objective, measured and deliberate – the kind of speech you expect from an attorney general. What’s worse, his central assertion – that state efforts to improve the integrity of the election process will make it "harder" for eligible citizens to vote – is demonstrably false.
ACRU’s Blackwell: The New York Times’ Ironic Coverage of the ‘Woke’ ACLU
Past famed ACLU attorneys are speaking out that the organization has caved to "cancel culture" and joined the censorious, authoritarian left. Since 2016, the ACLU has embraced the anti-Trump resistance with numerous campaigns, such as partisan efforts to accuse Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault and label all police officers as white supremacists.

ACRU’s Lori Roman: Corporatism Will Snuff Out Individual Rights Unless We Stop It
For too long, conservatives have blindly supported corporations. While trying to support “free markets” we might inadvertently be supporting corporatism, a form of economic totalitarianism where government and corporations collude to destroy individual rights.
Ken Blackwell: Court Ordering MLB All-Star Game to Atlanta Would Be a Win
Ken Blackwell, former mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, told Breitbart News on Friday that a court order for Major League Baseball (MLB) to return its All-Star Game to Atlanta “would be a win-win for everyone.”
Von Spakovsky: Another Bill to Give Partisan Bureaucrats Control Over State Election Laws
One of the false narratives constantly pushed by liberals is that the efforts of states to reform and fix vulnerabilities in their election systems are somehow examples of “voter suppression.” Nothing could be further from the truth. Making sure that every eligible citizen is able to vote and that their vote is not lost or stolen through fraud or errors is not voter suppression—it is good governance.
ACRU’s Blackwell: Democrats Pull Hat Trick With Dishonest Voting Rights Bill
Democrats are pushing another federal takeover of elections with the so-called John Lewis Voting Right Advancement Act. This one is a power grab forcing states to get permission from the Democrat-controlled federal government before implementing election integrity measures like voter ID and other constitutional safeguards.
ACRU President Lori Roman Testifies to Congress About Voting in America
We should all be able to agree it should be easy to vote and hard to cheat. The integrity of the ballot box is essential to the continued success of the United States constitutional system. Now is the time to protect the integrity of every individual's vote by ensuring their votes are not diluted by fraudulent votes. Voter rolls across the country are filled with names of individuals who have moved, died, or are ineligible to legally vote.
The Other Voting Right: Protecting Every Citizen’s Vote by Safeguarding the Integrity of the Ballot Box
There is a saying that "people get the government they vote for." The implication of the maxim is that if undesirable or unwise legislation is enacted, if executive branch officials are inept or ineffective, or if the government is beset with widespread corruption, then such unfortunate results are the consequence of the electorate's decision regarding whom to trust with the powers and prestige of public office. The Constitution does not forbid people from enacting wrongheaded policies. If voters elect leaders that fail them, then the citizenry is saddled with the consequences of its choice until the next election. Such is the reality in a democratic republic.

ACRU’s Lori Roman: Freedom or Future?
Politicians and bureaucrats have decided that they can wave a magic “COVID” wand and make constitutional rights disappear. College students have been among those hit hardest by the edicts. Many students have been forced to choose between medical choice and privacy and their continued education.
