Ken Blackwell: No Time Outs in the War on Terror

In his State of the Union address next week, it is imperative that President Bush push for the reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. Setting aside foolish partisan politics and ad hominem arguments, FISA is necessary for the national security of America and the safety of Americans.

Ken Blackwell: Late Betrayal on Gun Rights

By |2020-04-23T21:53:49-04:00January 17th, 2008|

Et tu, Brute? In the waning days of the Bush Administration, Justice Department lawyers have filed a curious amicus brief in the DC gun ban case before the US Supreme Court. The attorneys took a middle-of-the-road approach to Second Amendment freedoms. They argued that gun ownership is not a "fundamental" right. Instead, they say, it is a right deserving only an "intermediate" level of protection.

Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell on the DC Gun Ban Case

By |2008-01-17T11:06:11-05:00January 17th, 2008|

Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell wrote this column for Townhall.com where he makes the argument that the Justice Department betrayed us with the amicus brief it filed in the DC Gun Ban case, to be heard by the Supreme Court this term.

Says Blackwell of the US Government’s apparent desire to split up gun rights:

The problem with splitting a baby in half is that the baby usually dies. If our rights can be regulated to the point that we can’t exercise them in our own homes, then they’ve been regulated out of existence.

The ACLU is supporting terrorists by opposing the Department of Homeland Security's Real ID Act.

By |2008-01-15T22:20:39-05:00January 15th, 2008|

The Real ID Act was created by DHS after 9/11 to make it harder for terrorists and illegal immigrants to obtain government issued identification. This new secure identification program was passed into law in 2005 and the government plans to phase into the program. The Real ID Act will be initiated in phases with a target deadline of 2011 with the hope of all measures being in place by 2014.

This initiative was motivated by the September 11 attacks. One of the hijacker-pilots on that day had a total of four driver’s licenses and ID cards from three states.

The ACLU is assisting illegal immigrants – again!

By |2008-01-11T11:45:43-05:00January 11th, 2008|

This time the fight is in the State of Indiana where the ACLU is trying to stop a bill to penalize businesses for hiring illegal immigrants, claiming that only the federal government has authority over controlling illegal immigration

According to ACRU spokesman, John Armor, “The ACLU is dead wrong. While immigration should be a federal issue, when the federal government utterly fails to act effectively, the states are free to act on their own, as several have already done.”

“A law very similar to the proposed Indiana one, passed in Arizona, is already having its desired effect,” explains Armor. “As the job market […]

Peter Ferrara's interview in San Antonio shows the difference in beliefs on Voter ID issue

By |2008-01-09T14:46:05-05:00January 9th, 2008|

Peter Ferrara was interviewed 1200 WOAI in San Antonio about the Indiana Voter ID case being heard at the Supreme Court today. The article can be read here.

When asked about the claim that these laws depress the turnout of the poor, Ferrara responded,

If you don’t have a photo i.d., under this law, the state will give you one for free. If you are too poor even to get one of the free photo i.ds, you can be exempted from the law. The only people who are inconvenienced will be those who are trying to commit voter fraud.
