Allen West on Leadership, Readiness, and the Battles We Cannot See
August 18, 2026

Lieutenant Colonel Allen West joined Victory Channel’s *Unclassified* for a candid discussion of military leadership, combat readiness, faith, and the unseen burdens carried by service members and their families.
Drawing on 22 years in the United States Army, West explains why commanders must prepare troops before deployment—not simply react after problems surface—and why chaplains and first-line leaders need to be present wherever service members live, train, and work.
He also makes an important distinction: toughness and attentive leadership are not opposites. Hard, realistic training builds readiness, while strong leaders know their people well enough to notice when something changes. West discusses the value of battle buddies, the responsibility to care for the force, and the transition families face when a loved one returns from deployment.
