Vote counting in the Iowa Democrat caucus was a mess. The app built by a company aptly called “Shadow,” created results that were delayed, partially released, partially reversed, and just an epic fail. Shadow is a company created by former Hillary Clinton staffers. Caucus officials are also now refusing to correct errors on worksheets. Lesson? 1. Stay away from vote counting apps created by political operatives. 2. Phone-based voting has the potential to mess up a lot more than one primary.

“Scientific poll” is often an oxymoron for a biased discipline, but trends matter. When a recent Rasmussen poll asked “are American elections fair,” 50% of respondents said yes, down from 57% in 2012. Currently, 72% of Republicans and independents think elections are fair, but only 32% of Democrats. Conclusion? The endless barrage of misinformation by liberals that “there is no voter fraud except when conservatives suppress the vote” is, sadly, having an impact on Democrat voters.

ACRU Policy Board Member and Heritage Foundation Legal Fellow Hans von Spakovsky takes aim at Congressional Democrat’s latest attack on voting integrity, H.R. 4, which Hans calls, “The Election Fraud Advancement Act.” This bill would “have DC take over state and local elections and stop reforms to improve security of the voting process.” The bill uses false claims of “racism” to thwart a SCOTUS decision and limit the rights of state and local citizens. It’s awful. Call your Congressman.

Two dangerous criminal illegal aliens walk free in NYC

In September, a Ukrainian illegally in the U.S. was charged with violent sexual abuse, attempted strangulation and rape. A 34-year-illegal immigrant from Mexico was arrested by NYPD in November and charged with violently assaulting a child. ICE issued detainers on both, both were ignored, both offenders were let loose back into the community because of NYC’s sanctuary policy. Fortunately, ICE tracked them both down. Sanctuary policy destroys lives. Politicians who support it need to be stopped. By voters.

We love the picture in this article, so make sure you look. Apparently in Kentucky, you can’t bring an umbrella into the capitol building, but you can bring a gun. Irritated by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, who tried to accuse VA lawful gun owners of being criminals before a fully armed, fully peaceful pro-2A rally on January 20th, KY gun owners decided to march on their capital in solidarity. The armed protestors loved the statues and paintings, had a great time, and not a single bad thing happened. Daniel Boone would be proud. We certainly are.

Oral arguments were made last week in a Supreme Court case about equitable treatment of tax dollars for private schools. The case was brought by Kendra Espinoza, a Montana single mother struggling to keep her children in better (private) schools and thwarted by a state rule banning tax credit scholarships. This article by friend Star Parker summarizes immediate and broader issues in play, in particular for minority parents in districts with failing schools. We anticipate an outcome in Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue that upholds religious and education freedom.

Liberal progressives love to swing the axe of government tyranny over individual choice—particularly against people of faith. Anti-faith bias is flourishing amidst Democrat presidential candidates. Senator Elizabeth Warren has decided that if she becomes president, she will give herself the right to pick which private schools receive federal subsidies and which private school donors are allowed deductions. She has a simple calculation—if your school teaches “traditional family values” you are excluded. Liberals like Ms. Warren yell “separation of church and state!” while using government to punish church.

NM sheriffs raise red flag on red flag laws

New Mexico Sheriffs Association members take their oath to uphold the rule of law seriously. Last year they halted state red flag legislation. They plan on doing the same this year, as their spokesperson noted, “This bill violates (the Constitution) and due process. It violates the 4th Amendment and 5th Amendment without (the accused) committing a criminal act.” They will refuse to enforce red flag warrants. Without law enforcement officers like these, liberal legislators would have full reign to restrict our rights.

Michael Bloomberg spent $2.5 million to turn the state blue by instilling fear in voters about lawful gun ownership—and it worked. Kerri notes that liberals are looking to turn the majority of state governments and the White House blue, and Virginia is now pushing an armful of leftist bills through the legislature after their win. Going forward, their VA plan deserves careful scrutiny.

Last week a bill with enhanced voter integrity provisions passed the GOP-led Kentucky Senate and is now at the state House, where it is likely to pass. Kentucky Democrats are saying two things about the law that make no sense to say at the same time —there is not enough voter fraud to require a photo ID law, and photo ID laws suppress votes (“suppress” is right up there with “purge.”) The new rule has flexibility—even an expired photo ID can be used. No one is sure whether Democrat Governor Andy Beshear will sign the bill as he has been more concerned with restoring voting rights to felons since his inauguration last month.
