ICE Washington, D.C. lodged an immigration detainer against Cortez-Mendez with the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, March 18, 2024; however, the detention center refused to honor the ICE detainer and released Cortez-Mendez back into the community.

Urbina illegally entered the U.S. on an unknown date and at an unknown location. ICE received information Feb. 20 confirming that Urbina was wanted in Honduras for murder and safely took him into custody that same day in Dublin, Texas, during a targeted enforcement action with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.

The Nassau County Supreme Court convicted Guevara of attempted murder and gang assault Sept. 3, 2021, and sentenced him to six years imprisonment and five years post release supervision.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said that his office will help Immigration and Customs Enforcement, “in any way we can,” as the agency begins to ramp up its targeting of undocumented people under President Donald Trump’s administration.
Local governments across Florida are beginning to work alongside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to train local law enforcement to identify and remove criminal immigrants.
