“Our policy is crystal clear. City police officers do not help or participate in federal immigration activities. I’ve instructed the Chief to make sure every RPD officer receive more training on general order 502 to make sure our members are aware and fully understand the policy,” Mayor Malik Evans said on Wednesday.

A Mexican citizen who had been in local custody after pleading guilty to assault charges, and was released from custody by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office after the sheriff’s office refused to honor a federal arrest warrant, has been arrested and taken into custody by federal law enforcement.
