A University of South Carolina junior named Nathanial “Nate” G. Baker was fatally struck by a truck driven by Rosali Fernandez-Cruz, 24, who was in the country illegally and wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The driver fled the scene without rendering aid and has been charged with hit-and-run resulting in death and related offenses. The incident has prompted political calls for stricter immigration enforcement in South Carolina.
