Migrant suspect in Texas cheerleader’s murder confronted by victim’s grieving mom in court

Jacqueline Medina drove 13 hours from Nevada to Texas to face her daughter’s alleged murderer in court for the first time on February 6. Rafael Govea Romero, a 25-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, is accused of breaking into Medina’s former Edna, Texas apartment and fatally stabbing her 16-year-old daughter Lizbeth — who was getting ready for school — and leaving her body in a bathtub. At the hearing in Jackson County, a judge found Romero competent to stand trial and set a tentative trial date for August.
