Maine’s Largest Jail Faces Mounting Pressure to End Contract with Federal Immigration Authorities

About 120 people packed a Cumberland County Board of Commissioners meeting to demand the jail stop housing immigrants for federal authorities. The number of people detained under ICE orders at Cumberland County Jail has hovered at roughly 100 per month since President Trump took office, sparking a grassroots campaign called No ICE for Maine which has collected nearly 3,000 petition signatures.
