Francisco Oropeza, 38, a Mexican national who had been deported four times between 2009 and 2016, pleaded guilty to capital murder of multiple persons and will serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole, avoiding a potential death sentence. Oropeza stormed into his neighbor’s home in Cleveland, Texas on April 28, 2023, after being asked to stop firing his AR-style rifle late at night, killing five people — including an eight-year-old boy — all of whom were from Honduras. San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon said Oropeza “will stay in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until he breathes his last breath.”
