Honduran National Charged With Assaulting Federal Security Officer and Attempting to Seize Firearm at 26 Federal Plaza

Joel Antonio Alonzo, a 19-year-old Honduran national, was charged with assaulting a federal protective security officer and attempting to seize the officer’s loaded service firearm at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City, where Immigration Court proceedings are conducted. According to the allegations, Alonzo exhibited disruptive behavior before lunging at an officer and grabbing his firearm with significant force in an attempt to pull it from its holster. The case was announced by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton and DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
