Eighth co-conspirator convicted for role in botched human smuggling attempt that resulted in 2 aliens being shot

Mailon Almendares-Martinez, 21, was convicted of conspiracy to transport illegal aliens for his involvement in a failed smuggling operation where two migrants were shot by rival smugglers. The investigation by ICE and Houston Police resulted in eight total convictions of human traffickers who operated between the Texas border and Houston. Almendares-Martinez faces up to 10 years in prison at his August sentencing.
