U.S. Border Patrol Agent David C. Maland was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Vermont, approximately 20 miles from the Canadian border. An exchange of gunfire resulted in one suspect being killed and another wounded and taken into custody. The suspect who was killed was a German national who had been in the United States on a valid visa.
