Attorney General Pamela Bondi Announces 29 Wanted Defendants from Mexico Taken into U.S. Custody

Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced in late February 2025 that the United States had secured custody of 29 defendants transferred from Mexico, facing federal charges in districts around the country for racketeering, drug trafficking, murder, illegal firearms use, and money laundering. Among those taken into custody was Luis Geraldo Mendez Estevane, the last outstanding fugitive from the 2010 U.S. Consulate murders in Ciudad Juarez, and Rafael Caro Quintero, the alleged killer of DEA Special Agent Camarena. The operation involved cooperation from the DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, ICE Homeland Security Investigations, and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
