ACLU of Utah blasts growing cooperation between local police, federal immigration officials

The ACLU of Utah is opposing expanding 287(g) agreements between local law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, warning that these partnerships could deter immigrants from reporting crimes or seeking police assistance due to deportation fears. The Riverton Police Department recently entered such an agreement, joining other Utah agencies in formalizing immigration enforcement cooperation.
